Teeth Whitening in Valley Village

How Does Teeth Whitening Work?

We offer both in-office and take-home whitening at our dental office in valley village. Both types of teeth whitening use a volatile type of oxygen molecule, called “peroxide.” When a peroxide like hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide contacts tooth stains, a chemical reaction occurs.

This snaps the bonds that hold the stain in place, “bleaching” them away from your teeth. This restores the natural brightness of your smile. Teeth whitening can eliminate external stains from a variety of things including drinking coffee and wine, using tobacco, and much more.

Teeth whitening only works on natural teeth, and cannot whiten dental work like fillings, crowns, and veneers.

The Benefits Of Teeth Whitening

Fast treatment

You can remove stains and brighten your smile by up to 5-10 shades in just one in-office appointment, or in about two weeks of daily treatments with take-home treatments.

Completely non-invasive

No needles, pills, or drills required! Teeth whitening doesn’t involve any kind of invasive treatment, so it’s a particularly great option for patients who may have dental anxiety.

Amazing results

Your newly-whitened smile will make you look younger, feel better about your teeth, and boost your confidence. You’ll never have to hide your teeth due to stains again.

The Teeth Whitening Treatment Process

Cosmetic consultation

First, you’ll come into PivoSmiles for a consultation with Dr. Jonathan Pivo. He will discuss your options for cosmetic treatment, including teeth whitening. Not all stains can be treated with whitening, so it’s important to make sure that it’s the right choice for your unique needs.

In-office teeth whitening

You can choose in-office whitening for the fastest results. To begin your treatment, Dr. Pivo will clean your teeth and apply a protectant to your gums. Then, he will use retractors to keep your tongue and lips away from your teeth, apply a powerful whitener, and activate it with a UV light. He’ll rinse the whitener away after about five minutes, and repeat this process until your smile reaches the desired brightness.

Take-home teeth whitening

In take-home whitening, we’ll take impressions of your smile and build a set of reusable whitening trays. It takes a couple of weeks to make these trays. When they're done, you’ll come pick them up, along with your whitening products and instructions on how to use them. Most patients will whiten their teeth at home for about an hour per day, and will see maximum results within 2-3 weeks.

How Often Will I Need Teeth Whitening?

You’ll usually see the best results for at least 1-2 years after your teeth whitening treatment in Valley Village. There are lots of ways to keep your smile bright, too. For example, you can prolong your results by using a whitening toothpaste, avoiding staining foods and drinks, taking good care of your teeth, and seeing the team at PivoSmiles for preventive care, including six-month teeth cleanings.

What is teeth whitening and how does it work?

Teeth whitening is a popular dental procedure that aims to lighten teeth by removing stains and discoloration. The process primarily involves the use of bleaching agents, such as hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, which penetrate the enamel to reach the discolored molecules in your teeth. These agents break the bonds that hold the discolored molecules together, effectively making your teeth appear brighter and whiter.

We offer both in-office and take-home whitening services; in-office teeth whitening can dramatically transform your smile in a single visit, while take-home whitening can produce the same results over the course of a week or two for a more gradual and convenient option.

How safe is teeth whitening at PivoSmiles?

At PivoSmiles, your safety is our utmost priority. Teeth whitening is generally safe as long as it is done under the supervision of a dental professional like Dr. Jonathan Pivo. We use only approved whitening products and follow strict protocols to ensure the procedure is carried out safely. However, it's important to note that not everyone is a suitable candidate for teeth whitening, so a thorough examination and consultation with Dr. Pivo are necessary before proceeding with the treatment.

How long does the teeth whitening process take at PivoSmiles?

The duration of the teeth whitening process can vary depending on the degree of discoloration and your desired level of whiteness. Typically, the in-office procedure at PivoSmiles takes about an hour. However, you may need multiple sessions to achieve your desired results. Dr. Pivo will provide you with a more accurate timeline during your consultation.

How long do the results of teeth whitening last?

The longevity of teeth whitening results can vary from person to person. Generally, the effects of teeth whitening can last from a few months to up to three years. This largely depends on your lifestyle habits, such as your diet and oral hygiene practices. Regular consumption of staining foods and beverages, like coffee, tea, and red wine, or habits like smoking can shorten the lifespan of your whitening results. Regular touch-ups and good oral hygiene can help maintain your brighter, whiter smile for longer.

Is teeth whitening suitable for everyone?

While teeth whitening is a popular and effective cosmetic procedure, it may not be suitable for everyone. Individuals with sensitive teeth, gum disease, worn enamel, or certain dental restorations like crowns or veneers may not be ideal candidates for whitening. Additionally, teeth whitening is not recommended for pregnant or lactating women. At PivoSmiles, Dr. Pivo conducts a thorough examination of your oral health before recommending any whitening treatment. If traditional whitening isn't suitable for you, we can discuss alternative cosmetic options to improve your smile. It's important to have a professional assessment to determine the best and safest way to enhance your smile's appearance.
